Huey, Louis & Dewey or should it be Larry, Curly & Mo?

The US Embassy owns a house in the north, called the Karavas house. It was the US's before the 1974 war and the US continues to own the land. There is 1 house remaining and I'm on the (interim) board of AEEA (American Embassy Employee Assoc) who is trying to fix it up for more US Embassy families to use and as a source of revenue so we can start to party!! The other day I went up with Jim, a great guy from the Embassy, the 1 hour both ways went fast with his stories on his assignments: Korea, Japan, Hawaii, Germany, Kenya, Scotland, England and now Cyprus! The house is nice, needs some improvements but for sure a great place for a weekend get-away.

Anyway, the gardener told us that late last week someone dumped 8 puppies next to the fence. He didn't want to encourage them, so was only giving water. Someone came and took 5, so that 3 were remaining. He showed us, and that was that: home they came. The little one was so weak I had to breach the fence to fetch her, she shook like a leaf all night and still does a little. Nerves, I suppose, it was a big day for them.

I spent an hour on these little things, each was shampooed, plucked of as many ticks as I could get my tweezers on, shampooed again and once more for good measure. And the water was still running brown. They ate like they never had eaten and slept all night. This morning when I opened the door, they were bright eyed and ready to play!

First thing this morning I took them to the vet. They will live, that is the good news. The vet tore off so many HUGE, green, juicy ticks that 2 of the pups bled from their ears. I couldn't do those, they were too much for me. On the last of the 6 ears, he was upset; he said they were suffering and there were so many ticks it looked like a bunch of grapes. He swabbed the ears, gave them eye drops, meds for the parasites in their tummies and will be going back in a week for shots.

They are not pure breeds, but very close. They are German Pointers, very good for hunting (like I hunt!) and he thinks we could even sell them for a couple hundred bucks. About 5 or 6 weeks old. They are okay away from mom at about 4, but should really stay until 8 or 10, he said. These still sleep all bunched on top of each other, and won't let each other out of their sight. The boys come anytime the girl whimpers.

The little girl, mostly white with very nicely distinct brown spots, weighs in this morning at 2 pounds 1 ounce. She is of the highest value due to her coat and most proper bred markings. The others are boys, the brownish one is 2 pounds 8 ounces and the big boy is 3 pound 8 ounces (this is after eating for a day!).

I don't want a local to get them, I'm less than impressed with how they (generally) treat animals. Even the vet (who is a Cypriot) stated that pets are treated better in the last 5-8 years than ever before, but not like in the West. There is a British Dog Rescue with a no kill policy just around the corner from me. I think that we will make sure they are healthy, without disease and then keep only 1. I hate to split them up, but it's unlikely that a person will take all 3 anyway, right? I don't know which one yet. They should be with us for at least a week, so maybe then we can decide better.

Aren't they cute?!?!

Am,
They are sooo cute> but don't keep one, remember what a pain your grandnephew Rowley is. Get one of your neighbors to adopt one and then babysit! I know they are very appreciative to you for making that trip and your huge effort. xx
